Turkey Torta Tango

"Turkey Torta what?!" That's what we said after seeing this week's special online. Rather than drool over the Kogi website and wonder, Chris and I decided to see for ourselves what the triple T's were all about. It's best chat up the Kogi peeps, and this is what they said:

"Grilled turkey and kimchi, refried beans, cheese, salsa azul, sesame mayo, and a soft Salvadorean pillow bun."

If you thought that was mouthful, try tango'ing with such a torta!

Going Bananas

Lately, I seem to be going bananas thinking about a million things. I decided to slow down the pace of everything racing through my mind, and bake. Weirdly, baking calms me and sets me straight. The sweet treats are just a bonus ;) I kid I kid. The sweets are the best part!

My neighbor likes to give me old bananas - hm, wonder why - to use for my own pleasure. Looks like everyone gets the benefits... I made chocolate chip banana muffins; a great little snack to keep everyone on high energy around here. Hello, bananas are a power fruit! The darker muffins have Nutella mixed into the batter, and whiter muffins are just plain. Pick 'n choose, do whatcha like. Xo.

Green Grass

The grass is definitely greener at Barney's...

If you don't want to shop 'till you drop, just pop on over to Green Grass [5th FL] and let it give you a brain boost that'll knock some sense into you before spending $_ _ _ on a cute summer romper. [I'm still thinking about how well it would go with the New York streets I'm about to stomp on very soon...] Anyways, I met up with Teresa and Raymond for a late lunch in Beverly Hills. Chatting about work, new projects, COACHELLA and whatnot - it's nice to be able to connect with friends from home in a different setting, *Traveling For The Win*.

MilkBar comes to Malibu

Plain 'n simple: Marisa is theeee sweetest. Look at what she sent right to my doorstep in Malibu. Am I lucky, or what? These precious MilkBar treats traveled a long way to get into my belly, and I appreciate every single inch of the journey they took. I told Marisa that she's like the long distance boyfriend from New York that I never had... Thanks, girl! See you in a few?! :)

Din Tai Fung

'Dem some good dimsum!

I had so much fun on Sunday getting to do what my family -when we all lived in the same country- used to do every Sunday: Dimsum. Rich [my fellow NYC foodie] told me he found out about Din Tai Fung in Arcadia; as soon as I heard, I was all in. Din Tai Fung is a popular dumpling house in Singapore that brings me back to high school days. It tastes exactly the same here, I love that authenticity can still be preserved a few thousand miles away ;) We gathered up a crew, our friend Meg, Rich's cousin, Matt and his girlfriend Daniella and drove down together to Arcadia. Let's just cut the story short and say we took on lunch as we would a marathon - no rush, slow and steady finishes the meal, er, race. I think we ordered 50 dumplings in total, plus more dishes!

Tiny fact: all the dumpling tins pictured are *different* orders. They're not 2 pictures of the same dish. They may look the same on the outside, but inside is a whole new filling. That would explain why we rolled out of the restaurant and felt quite like dumplings ourselves :P

Un Big Mac @ Kogi

Speaking of Kogi specials, this is one from a few weeks back with Becca. We tried... drum roll please... UN BIG MAC!! This is how Kogi described it:

Double stacked mulita mayhem! First layer of this bad boy is grilled jalapeno, short rib, and cheese with another layer of spicy pork and cheese on top. Then both mulitas are binded together by a layer of sour cream and salsa roja. And all of this comes on a sesame seed tortilla.

They need to bring this back again - anything that combines short rib and spicy pork needs to stay on the menu. For good.

Duke's, Malibu

Living just a stone's throw away from Duke's makes it hard to resist the occasional craving for a fish taco. Enjoying casual beach bites at The Barefoot Bar is something any Malibu resident shouldn't take for granted. Crashing waves and enchanting sunsets are priceless experiences enjoyed from the patio - given that you do have to pay for the food ;) Lauren and I had a late-night date over at Duke's last week; too late to be outside in the chilly ocean breeze. Nevertheless, the food tasted just as good!
