GAIA - Singapore

Another new spot, courtesy of mom! She took me for dinner at the Goodwood Park Hotel. When we lived in Singapore, our family would frequent their Chinese restaurant Min Jiang at least once a month. I've never been to another one of their restaurants, so I was looking forward to this night.

We went to Gaia, the hotel's Italian restaurant. Sooooo friggin' good! Italian food is a mainstay in our family, and I *know* if we still lived in Singapore, this would be frequented just as often as Min Jiang. Given that the atmosphere is quite formal, Gaia serves home-style fare and classic Italian cuisine. I guess I'd add "with a twist" for some items. We got an eggplant and mozzarella appetizer that came pretty dressed up - not quite how you'd see it at home. My favorites were the homey risotto (mom and I shared this for appetizer too) and my truffle pasta. When I go again, I'm getting the truffle pasta fo sho'. Mom got her sea bass and for dessert we ended with tiramisu. I definitely recommend Gaia to all of you reading this. When you make reservations, you can mention that you want to be seated in the area that resembles a garden or there's the more intimate dining room space. Mom and I sat in the dining room section... Next time, I'd like to experience the other side ;)

CANTONi - Singapore

New spot alert! It was my first time to eat at Canton-i in Singapore. Since we stayed walking distance from Ion, mom and I found ourselves eating there on more than one occasion. Dim sum is quite popular in the Grandidge family, so mom shared with me a place that she knew I'd enjoy. Canton-i specializes in Hong Kong style cuisine and everything we ordered (which wasn't so much in fact) tasted yummeh! While waiting for our dim sum to arrive, I explored the back end of the restaurant where they had bigger tables -that were still empty- and took a few pictures. Isn't the flowered wall precious?! Our section of the restaurant was full, you can see in the pictures that every table along the wall is taken. I'll take that as a good sign :)

SUSHI TEI - Singapore

Another non-newbie to the blog... Sushi Tei. My mom and I ate here for dinner on our first day (which was the same day as lunch at Marmalade). What can I say, we don't waste any time hitting up our fave spots!

We pretty much ordered without the menu, except for the cod kaarage which I glanced at on the monthly specials page. Take note on the half dragon roll; the regular roll has 8 pieces, and the half order has a friendly 4. Our server said this was a recent addition - new to us, that's for sure. When dinner is just as wonderful as anticipated, there's not much else to ask for.

MARMALADE PANTRY - Singapore

HELLO, SINGAPORE!

The next few posts will be from my recent trip to Singapore. For those of you who don't know, I used to live there, so a few of these entries will be from my favorite foodie places that have already been blogged about. This first one is no exception, it's my re-visit to Marmalade Pantry after quite a few years! (I went to Singapore last year, but didn't get to eat at Marmalade on that trip)

I ordered what used to be my "usual", the warm spinach salad. If all salads tasted this great, I would consider it for every lunch meal ;) Spinach, tomatoes, onions, pine nuts, bacon, poached egg and fried mozzarella - that's pretty much drool worthy for a salad in my book. My mom got a beetroot and goat cheese mix that tasted excellent as well. You don't want to feel like you're "missing out" when you order a salad, and at Marmalade it's the opposite... You almost feel like you're missing out if you don't get a salad! And no, I don't think I'm exaggerating here. Happy healthy salad eating, everyone!
