Bui Sushi

After a stint in Spain, my good friend Manelay is now back in her hometown! El Hey. This means more meals, more walks and more chats about where life is taking us. We are learning to be in charge of our destinies :)

Our reunion last week took place at Bui Sushi, a local Malibu sushi restaurant in the Colony Plaza. Since Nobu down the street costs an arm and a leg, we can't quite go there for the "casual catch up" just yet. Manelay ordered hamachi sashimi dusted with peppercorns and perfectly round jalapeno slices for a little kick. She also got the house green salad served with a wonderful Japanese dressing that gives the greens some good flavor. I'm such a spicy tuna fan, so I got the lettuce cups and filled each one with a generous helping of spicy tuna. I also got the miso eggplant, which I devoured in seconds!

Church + Brunch

The sibling Sunday brunch finally happened! After many Sunday's at church there has been discussion about amongst Fabi and I about rounding up the "church crew" for a meal. By church crew, we kind of just mean us and our brothers. We're not really in the Malibu Catholic community, but hey we give thanks to the Lord every Sunday - and that counts for something. Adrian has been gone for a semester in Shanghai and now that he's back in the U S of A, the sibling pairs are complete.

We had brunch at Coogies after mass this morning. Coogies is the local beach cafe in Malibu, accessible to scruffy surfers and local celebrities alike. Today, we were sitting next to Brooke Burke and her gorgeous family. Coogies has their own signature french toast, which is to.die.for. Thinly sliced bagels dipped in egg whites, topped with bananas, peanut butter and cinnamon sugar; SO delicious. Of course we all wanted it, so to make it easier, we got an order for the table! Chris and Fabi both got breakfast quesadillas, I got an omelette and Adrian opted for a breakfast sandwich. None of us had to sacrifice our sweet and savory craving :)
