SUSHI TEI - Singapore

Another non-newbie to the blog... Sushi Tei. My mom and I ate here for dinner on our first day (which was the same day as lunch at Marmalade). What can I say, we don't waste any time hitting up our fave spots!

We pretty much ordered without the menu, except for the cod kaarage which I glanced at on the monthly specials page. Take note on the half dragon roll; the regular roll has 8 pieces, and the half order has a friendly 4. Our server said this was a recent addition - new to us, that's for sure. When dinner is just as wonderful as anticipated, there's not much else to ask for.

Sushi Tei | SINGAPORE

Just came back from a lovely trip to Singapore! My old stomping grounds ;) Sometimes I forget that I spent 8 crucial years in the Lion City - Middle & High School, c'mon that's crucial. Food wise, we were able to squeeze in a lot of places during our long weekend visit... We basically walked a shiz load on Orchard Road which lent us to little snacks throughout the day. I won't do my posts in chronological order, but this lunch here was our very first meal after we checked into our hotel.

SUSHI TEI BABY! I reference Sushi Tei often, when talking about possible new Japanese concepts for Manila to bring in. Their dishes stay true to Japanese flavors, yet their menu is still interesting and creative. Sushi Tei also offers monthly specials to boot - I used to always look forward to that. On the plane ride from Manila to Singapore, Jon and I agreed we'd go here first. We were SO excited to be back and eating at Paragon again :)

Cafe Beviamo

Speaking of hot-pressed sandwiches in my previous post, here's another place that is worth mentioning: Cafe Beviamo. Since it literally was just a hop, skip, and a step away from our apartment in Singapore, Cafe Beviamo became our go-to place for a quick 'n easy bite. In the middle of the moving/boxes/packers chaos, mom and I darted over for a quick lunch - little did I know that was gonna be my last time over there for a while (until next time, of course). I think the beauty of the cafe is in its simplicity; they have an open kitchen smack in the middle of two elevators while the seating area is not far away, reminiscent of a little island oasis in the middle of the mall. The seating is limited, so it's pretty much first come/first serve. Also, Cafe Beviamo is definitely a casual spot, so although it's open for dinner time, I suggest lunch and breakfast will be your best bet! Happy Eating :)

My family is a big believer in weekend dim sum consumption, who can blame us... Dim sum is the name of a Chinese cuisine that consists of a variety of light dishes accompanied by Chinese tea. These "light dishes" translate into individual dumplings filled with scrumptious goodness :) Actually, there are other dishes too besides just dumplings, like the pan-fried carrot cake, garlic broccoli, crispy seafood noodles, crunchy prawn and mango, baked bbq pork bun etc. In fact, the whole experience is called yum cha literally meaning "drinking tea". Keep in mind that dim sum is usually served between the hours of 11am-2 pm; give or take. Wouldn't want you to miss out arriving at 4pm for the yum cha experience!

As many of you may - or may not - know, my family is making the much-anticipated permanent move to the motherland aka Manila, Philippines. It seems as though this plan was always far out in the horizon and *BOOM* all of a sudden it is no more a blur in our focus. Rather, it is thee focus; the topic of most Grandidge family conversations over breakfasts, lunches and dinners. Although there will be aspects of Singapore that will be missed, I am looking forward to the new and exciting way of life that my birthplace has to offer. Visiting for weeks at a time will be much different than finally having an address, a home... It's a newfound chapter for my family, and only we can scribble the words for the pages to come.

On that note, there are a few places I must visit in Singapore just one more time to lock in good memories from restaurants that I have frequented too many times to count. My B.I.L.S (Before I Leave Singapore) series will give you a good idea of the spots I've been eating at for many years - tried and tested numerous times.
