My mom shared with me her new spot for coffee at The Fort: Alexandre. Named after the owner, this bakery-come-cafe by day come wine bar by night is known for their authentic, fine breads and pastries. Alexandre flew his mother in from France to add that extra touch of traditional French baking to the scene - how much more authentic can you get? My mom has had a few conversations with Alexandre and was happy to pass that information along to me :) When I went in for a quick coffee with my parents, Alexandre's fiancee -also French- was overseeing the place; he must have been busy with another aspect of the business. The black and white interiors are not overly done, it has just the right simple sophistication for the type of place it is. The same place that serves breakfast, salads, sandwiches and crepes also transforms into a chic winery during the latter hours of service. I will have to check that out next time...
