Thanksgiving 2010

Wow. I just re-visited my "Thanksgiving 2009" post on this blog and I can't believe a whole year has passed from then until now. Last year I flew to Manila from LA to spend the long weekend with my family, and now I'm living with my family here in Manila. I'm still adjusting to certain aspects of Manila vs. Malibu, but I couldn't be more thankful being closer to my parents and Jon. This is where I want to be.

Last year there was zero turkey and zero stuffing; this year 2 turkey's and 1 stuffing. Last year we had Chef Fern whip up his culinary dishes in the kitchen; this year we had our friends participate in the "home-made potluck". Last year I made 2 desserts; this year I made 3! Hehe.

Check out the photos below for a few highlights from Thanksgiving 2010... Btw, these photos were all taken by my friend Barry (who made an amazing meat loaf!). I should probably give him a heads up that I'm stealing them for the blog... ;)

Bon Chon hits Manila

Talk about hype! For the last few weeks on Twitter, my feed was flooded with talk of the newly-opened Bon Chon Chicken here in Ayalya, the Ayala Triangle to be exact. You could imagine my excitement as I thought, "Sweet! My fave-uh-rit chicken spot in New York is pretty much across the street..." Jon and I waited a few weeks before going, simply because we kept hearing about the big crowds dying to try double-fried Korean style chicken. [One day we heard they ran out of chicken at 3pm!]

When we got there, it was by no means empty. While Jon stood in line, I was on the lookout to shoot myself over to a table as soon as it became available. In fairness though, the place isn't that big... Able to get ourselves a table, we waited for our food. We got a combo of drumsticks and wings in both flavors, "soy garlic" and "spicy." That's how we did it in New York as well :) Oh, we also got a side of kimchi coleslaw. To cut to the chase Bon Chon was aiight. It just wasn't exactly the same as in the Big Apple. I don't know if it was 'cause we weren't physically *in* New York, but something was off... It also didn't help that a few hours after our meal, Jon and I got hit with major MSG-syndrome. Lethargic, tired and low on energy. Let's see, I'm willing to try it again and see if I get the same reaction -- Who wants to go?! :)

Dessert Comes First

Dessert Comes First... We couldn't agree more with Lori's aptly titled food blog. Check out the website for Lori's take on dessert, restaurants and all things "foodie" in the Metro Manila area. Sweet Patti Cakes was lucky enough to get featured recently, receiving the stamp of approval from the self-procalimed "budding food photographer, passionate home baker and enthusiastic food chronicler." I was very touched by her kind words to me, along with her truly sweet write up about my cupcakes. You best click on the link [ here ] to see for yourself!
